Load only what you want !! Over these months this has been the best tool that I have used (recommended by Vijyesh). Working on slow bandwidths can be tedious, but this tool helps load webpages faster by displaying only what you need.

Do a Google Search in saving youtube videos. And you are likely to come up with numerous results. Tons of websites offering you ways of downloading You Tube videos.

Now having tried many of them myself, I found out that that most of these did not work every time.

Now I am putting up two websites that I found were the best and the fastest to download videos.

First one is on the very popular website TechCrunch.com

Here’s the link : YouTube Video Download

How To Download ??

Just get the video link { Example : http://youtube.com/watch?v=M3n-eiSpErk } from YouTube and paste it in the text box.

And remember to rename the video and change the extension to ‘.flv’. Use flvPlayer or VLC Playerto play the video.

There’s also another great site that always worked for me.

Hello again !

Now I decided to write this post because there are still people like my friend, Nakul who still download the 23.2mb big Adobe Reader to view pdf files.(through his limited 550mb/month broadband connection)

A lot of people might have heard about Foxit Reader, but many are still unaware. So now all these people can actually judge which is better.

reader_icon_special1.jpg v/s foxit_logo.jpg

The basic factor is the SIZE.

Adobe Reader is a whopping 23.2mb

Foxit Reader in an incredibly small size 1.67mb !!!

Now I am mentioning some of the feaures of the Foxit Reader.

In the past, you have to download a huge PDF reader from another software company, go through a lengthy installation process and wait for an annoying splash window to disappear just to open a PDF document. Moreover, if you want to annotate a PDF document, you have to pay US$299 to buy certain PDF software.

Now with Foxit Reader 2.0, you don’t have to endure such pain any more. The following is a list of compelling advantages of Foxit Reader 2.0:

  • Incredibly small: The download size of Foxit Reader is only 1.67 M which is a fraction of Acrobat Reader 20 M size
  • Breezing-fast: When you run Foxit Reader, it launches instantly without any delay. You are not forced to view an annoying splash window displaying company logo, author names, etc.
  • Annotation tool: Have you ever wished to annotate (or comment on) a PDF document when you are reading it? Foxit Reader 2.0 allows you to draw graphics, highlight text, type text and make notes on a PDF document and then print out or save the annotated document.
  • Text converter: You may convert the whole PDF document into a simple text file.
  • High security and privacy: Foxit Reader highly respects the security and privacy of users and will never connect to the Internet without users’ permission. While other PDF readers often silently connect to the Internet in the background. Foxit PDF Reader does not contain any spyware or adware.

So download Foxit Reader now !! Click Here

Still, why do most people download Adobe Reader ??

A Google search for “pdf” results in Adobe Reader at the top and Foxit Reader at the bottom(9th) !!

pod Here is another interesting website that let’s you group and manage your online videos from number of sites.

The main feature of this website is that it lets you share your ‘pods’ through the blog widgets that are available. This is what the creators have to say :

Instead, we give you some tools and a space (it’s called a Pod) to collect videos that matter to you. Videos that you want to show your friends and watch with them. Or videos you want to show a broader community that shares your interests. You decide what’s hot, and what’s not — not 563,000 people with tastes or interests unlike yours.

vod:pod has a rich feature set that is easy to use. You can make your videos public or private; consequently, could see people using it to share home movies, weddings, or travel logs. For others it will be a convenient way to collect and share interesting videos that they find online. The pod videos widget alone is worth the site registration, and the future plans for domain mapping and subscription services make it an interesting choice for anyone looking to monetize their own content.

VodPod.com is an easy to use, free service that allows you to save your favorite videos to “Pods”. There is also a social network to VodPod that allows you to see what is popular in the community and add friends if you want.

Give it a try !

When it comes to bookmarking websites i often mess up and lose some very good links. Often in the pat I was creating the “links[1234…..n].txt” text files, but they usually got mixed up and eventually lost. Also bookmarks were not available to me at all the different places. But while creating this blog I found a new( for me !) way of saving web links. It is Furl It !

“Furl is a free service that saves a personal copy of any page you find on the Web, and lets you find it again instantly by searching your archive of pages. It’s your Personal Web… Each member gets a 5-gigabyte personal archive, large enough to store tens of thousands of pages… When you want to find something again, enter any word or phrase you remember from it… Even if a page has disappeared from the Web and other search engines, you’ll still have a personal copy.”

There are some other choices as well like del.icio.us and Spurl which you can always try.

After signing up on site i have been Furling every page that i want to save with the furl button installed on my browser toolbar. The best part is that even if the web page is changed or removed you will still have your own personal copy stored and you can even check out what other people are saving.

. . . . . my attempts to get organized !!

For those of you who dont know Hamachi is a Networking software that lets you create and join VPN (Virtual Private Networks). And so u basically have your own private network ( like a LAN ) on the internet.

But still Hamachi hasnt quite worked for me. After wasting 1 day, 2 nights with both of my friends I still need to figure out a way to play Counter Strike by creating my own servers and aliasing others through the VPN network. Well, at least for now i have stopped trying.

In the mean time you can try out Hamachi at “Hamachi.cc”
