Do a Google Search in saving youtube videos. And you are likely to come up with numerous results. Tons of websites offering you ways of downloading You Tube videos.

Now having tried many of them myself, I found out that that most of these did not work every time.

Now I am putting up two websites that I found were the best and the fastest to download videos.

First one is on the very popular website TechCrunch.com

Here’s the link : YouTube Video Download

How To Download ??

Just get the video link { Example : http://youtube.com/watch?v=M3n-eiSpErk } from YouTube and paste it in the text box.

And remember to rename the video and change the extension to ‘.flv’. Use flvPlayer or VLC Playerto play the video.

There’s also another great site that always worked for me.

Now this is another really cool but weird site that documents the historic era of the internet and computers, when everything was just text.

It has the largest collection of really old text files which comprise of E-Zines, Hacking Tutorials, Phreaking, Anarchy (really strange !!) , Stories, Books and a hell lot of other stuff.

Now comes the best part, some files are so weird that they will make you feel uneasy. Like in the Anarchy, section some of the files give you the complete instructions to make your own weapons ( and what not !! )

And it will take some time getting accustomed to the Matrix style webpages (but for our convenience we have other options as well).

The website is definitely worth a visit.

If You Cant Convince Them, Confuse Them.

Although most of you might have read it somewhere, the reason why I am writing this here is because I think, there is something special about it and also we as engineers apply this the most (specially when we are asked something, like our vivas).

Many people save screenshots of others work, bookmark websites, or “right click – > view Source“…..to save code/files/images, for later reference. With Flash files however it’s not usually as easy as save as, or right clicking to viewing source.

There are always plugins, addons and tools available to save these files. But this is best and the easiest way.

Use these tips to save all the ‘swf’ files you need. You can now save all Flash animations from web pages, including Flash websites, Flash game, Flash Animations, Flash Tutorials, Flash Movie Trailers, Flash Advertisements, or what ever Flash files you find in the web.

Saving Flash files from Firefox

The Easy Way –

a.) Click Tools – Page Info
b.) Click the Media Tab on the Page Info Windows
c.) The media tab has a complete list (with preview) of Images, CSS Files and Shockwave Flash files that were downloaded by the Firefox browser while rendering (loading) the page.
d.) Scroll down the list and locate the swf file.
e.) Click the “Save As” button. Select some directory on your hard drive and save the file (No need for a third-party plug-in).

The Geeky Way –

a.) Type about:blank in the Firefox address bar
b.) Now click List cache entries or directly type about:cache?device=disk (Disk cache device)
c.) Press Ctrl+F and try to location the flash file by typing some part of website URL or the flash file name or just ‘.swf’. After some hit and trial, you should be able to locate the swf file URL
d.) Click the SWF URL to open the Cache Entry Information page. Right click on the link and choose “Save link as”.

keep the page and IE open to avoid purging of the cache file.

Back after a Break

So what if i haven’t been contributing to the blogging world since a month. The blog has been receiving some steady traffic. Almost 900 visits. And Even Google is redirecting some traffic to the blog.

Well, I have had a tough September, and all along i was like – ‘Wake me up when September ends….’ (Wish I had Slept Through It).

Anyways now that it is over. Why don’t I look back into all of this.

First of all we just concluded Murious (Our Techfest). Well it was a success and some new events were organized.

I managed to get just one pic of the event Junkyard Wars. And just to be sure that you are not seeing cakes, these are bridges made of ice-cream sticks ( some may seem silly !!).

On the other hand there were a couple of robotics events as well.
